SCORECARD
The box below shows how many parishes have recevied permission from the Archbishop to use the Formation in Christian Chastity program. If a parish is not on this list, it may be in the process of receiving permission, or more likely is using the controversial Talking About Touching program.
Quotable
"Parents are the first and most important educators of their children, and they also possess a fundamental competency in this area: they are educators because they are parents."
-Truth and Meaning of Human Sexuality #23
The Formation in Christian Chastity Program
The Formation in Christian Chastity (FICC) program was developed by the
Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg
The program is entirely free. One simply downloads it off of a computer and uses it. They developed this curriculum not only for the people of Harrisburg, but also as a service to the Church.
If you go to the their
website and click on "Religious Education" on the left, when you scroll down you'll see two categories, Formation in Christian Chastity and the Safe Environment Program. These two sites contain all of the lesson plans. In their diocese, only the safe environment lessons are mandated. The "chastity" program is optional, although most parishes use it with the safety lessons.
They used Truth and Meaning of Human Sexuality as their guide in developing the program, and the program received praise when it was first approved by the bishops. It meets the safe environment requirements of the U.S. Bishops' Charter, and has been approved for use in our archdicoese with special permission from the archbishop.
Implementation is quite easy. Parent letters and lessons are sent home by mail each year. If there is a corresponding children's lesson that year, the parent mailing should go home a few weeks before the children's classroom lesson. They also recommend a parent meeting at the beginning of the year.
